Underrated creator

Son is undoubtedly one of the best finishers in European football, with the South Korean regularly outperforming his xG.

However, the Spurs captain’s ability to create chances for his teammates is also second to none, with the forward possessing an excellent passing range and an ability to drill dangerous balls into the box with both feet.

That is something James Maddison pointed out, with the England international telling SPOTV (22/9/24) two weeks ago that Son does not get the credit he deserves for his ability to set up goals.

Son top of the tree in stat

That is borne out by the numbers, with Whoscored revealing that the Tottenham star is far ahead of his peers when it comes to executing through balls.

Among players who have attempted more than 15 through balls since the start of last season, Son has the best pass completion rate at 70.6 per cent.

There is a big difference between the Spurs star and the others on the list, with the second-best, Phil Foden, having a completion rate of just 60 per cent.

Son closing in on a Spurs record

It is only a matter of time before Son becomes the most prolific assister for Tottenham in Premier League history.

The forward, who has 64 assists to his name in the league, recently overtook Christian Eriksen to second place and is now just three short of Darren Anderton’s record of 67 (Tottenhamhotspur.com).
