Johan Lange says Spurs should be particularly ‘proud’ of pulling off two signings
Johan Lange says that he is proud of the fact that Tottenham managed to beat some of the biggest clubs in Europe to key signings in their recent transfer windows.
Wholesale changes at Spurs
The current squad at Tottenham is starkly different to the one the club had when Ange Postecoglou took over last year.
Not only is the current team much younger but it is also much better equipped to handle the Australian’s high-intensity and attack-minded approach.
Lange has played a key role in helping Postecoglou identify and sign players who fit in with his vision, and the Spurs sporting director revealed that there are two deals, in particular, that everyone at the club should be proud of.
Tottenham beat Barca and Bayern
The two players that Lange is referring to are Lucas Bergvall and Radu Dragusin, both of whom were signed in January, although the latter only linked up with the Spurs squad in the summer.
The Dane revealed that the Lilywhites saw off competition from Barcelona to land the Swedish midfielder while they convinced the Romanian to snub Bayern Munich in favour of a move to North London.
Speaking of those two signings, Lange told The Standard: “Everyone at the club should feel proud that those two players, one had the opportunity to go to Bayern, one had the opportunity to go to Barca, and they chose to come here. That’s a huge compliment to everyone at the club.”
Squad to compete right now
There has been a lot of discussion about the fact that Tottenham are prioritising signing young, exciting players over established stars in recent windows.
Lange pointed out that while the club want to continue signing the best young talent in the world, he insisted that the goal has always been to build a squad that is capable of competing for trophies right now.
He added: “It is important to say we’re building a squad to be competitive here and now. This is not a project [for] five years’ time. We want to be a natural destination for the best talent out there and those things go hand in hand.
“The players [signed] are some of the best talents in Europe. They’re here to play now but of course, with their age, they have the potential to become even better, and that is exciting for everyone at the club.”
