Vicario’s impact at Spurs

While there has been a lot of focus on Vicario’s shortcomings from set-pieces, there is no doubt that the goalkeeper has made Tottenham a better side.

The Italian’s shot-stopping is up there with the best in the world while he is also a leader on the pitch, constantly yelling instructions at his backline.

The 27-year-old is also extremely calm on the ball, thus allowing Ange Postecoglou’s men to play out from the back in tight situations.

Vicario’s unique celebrations

One thing that sets Vicario apart from some other goalkeepers is his tendency to celebrate wildly when he makes big saves.

The former Empoli man’s celebrations are not too dissimilar to goal celebrations from strikers, and he has now explained that he feels the same joy in preventing goals as forwards do from finding the back of the net.

When asked about his celebration, the Tottenham number one told Vivo Azzurro TV ( relayed by Sport Mediaset): “I’d like to be able to compare the joy of saving to that of scoring a goal. For me, it’s like that, especially when you do it in a delicate moment and save a decisive result.”

Vicario’s crucial interventions

Both against Man United and Ferencvaros, Vicario produced important saves at a crucial time when the games were finely poised.

Had the Joshua Zirkzee attempt gone in to make it 1-1 in the first half at Old Trafford, the game might have changed completely.

If Vicario can improve his decision-making in dealing with crosses, he will undoubtedly be one of the best goalkeepers in the world.
