Pedro Porro’s stats against Denmark show Spain were right to call him up
Pedro Porro has been patiently waiting for a Spain recall over the past 12 months, but the Spurs right-back certainly took his chance with both hands against Denmark.
Spain 1-0 Denmark
Pedro Porro started Spain’s 1-0 win over Denmark in the UEFA Nations League on Saturday night, earning a much-deserved clean sheet for his national team.
Spain remain unbeaten in their Nations League campaign, with two wins and one draw in their group with Denmark, Switzerland, and Serbia. Spain are top of League A Group 4 with 7 points.
But how did Pedro Porro get on individually in his recall to the Spanish national side?
Pedro Porro’s stats against Denmark
Spain may be fresh off the back of a European Championship win, but Porro certainly didn’t look out of place among his trophy-winning teammates.
Fotmob handed Porro a rating of 7.9 out of 10 for his performance. The right-back recorded a pass accuracy of 88 per cent and created one chance for Spain in his 90 minutes on the pitch.
Porro had a whopping 110 touches of the ball throughout the match, and he used it well, playing seven passes into the final third to start Spain attacks. While he put some testing crosses into the box, only one out of nine found their target. However, Porro’s long-ball accuracy was an impressive 100 per cent.
Defensively, Porro made seven defensive actions and seven ball recoveries, as well as winning six of his 11 duels. He was only dispossessed once in the entire 90 minutes.
Pedro Porro is the best in England
Although it’s hard to match him against defensive full-backs who play in flat back fours, I would argue that Pedro Porro is the best right-back in the Premier League at the moment – alongside Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Spurs have run hot and cold defensively so far this season, but Porro has arguably been the most consistent of the back four, while still adding so much danger to Tottenham’s attack.
I would not be surprised to see Porro become a permanent fixture in this Spain side moving forward.
