Tottenham fear missing out on centre-back after ‘opening the door’ for rivals

Tottenham Hotspur may have made a grave mistake by hesitating to strike a deal for one of their top centre-back targets as this has now opened the door for two other Premier League sides to enter the race.

Abdukodir Khusanov is a wanted man

If you have followed Spurs Web’s coverage over the last few weeks, you would know that Lens starlet Abdukodir Khusanov has been heavily linked with a move to Tottenham.

The pacy defender is thought to be one of the names at the top of Ange Postecoglou‘s wishlist, and some sources have suggested that Spurs have even held exploratory talks over a deal for the player.

However, over recent days, it has emerged that the likes of Manchester City have entered the race for the 20-year-old, thus complicating matters for Tottenham.

Spurs concerned about missing out on Abdukodir Khusanov

TBR Football now report that Tottenham are ‘concerned’ about losing out on the Lens player as both Man City and Chelsea have entered the equation.

It is explained that Spurs and Newcastle were both keen on Khusanov and were the first ones to hold talks over a deal a few months ago.

However, neither club wanted to complete a full agreement as they were keen on keeping their options open.

This opened the door for others to enter the race, and Man City and Chelsea have now both promptly walked through that door, thus making things difficult for Spurs and the Magpies.

Further, the outlet adds that Arsenal and Brighton are also keeping tabs on Khusanov’s situation at the moment.

What is Lens’ stance on Khusanov?

The report says that Lens are open to letting the defender leave, but only under certain circumstances. The first condition is that the French club expect a fee of around £25m including bonuses and add-ons for the starlet.

The other is that fellow centre-back Kevin Danso, who is also subject to transfer interest from around Europe, does not leave Stade Bollaert-Delelis this month.

Lens do not want to sanction the sale of both centre-backs mid-season and could thus hang on to Khusanov if Danso departs.
