‘Eragon’ Disney+ Live-Action Series Taps Todd Harthan and Todd Helbing as Co-Showrunners

Disney+’s “Eragon” series has tapped Todd Harthan and Todd Helbing as co-showrunners of the live-action adaptation series, which has been in development for nearly four years.

Harthan, who also serves as the showrunner for ABC’s “High Potential,” has been named as a creator for “Eragon” alongside author Christopher Paolini, with Harthan, Helbing (“Superman & Lois”) and Paolini writing and executive producing the project, while Harthan and Helbing share showrunning responsibilities.

Additionally, Marc Webb has joined as an executive producer alongside Bert Salke for Co-Lab 21 and Rachel Moore.

The rounding out of the creative team marks a major step forward for the series, which was first announced to be in development back in 2022. At the time, Paolini was attached as the co-showrunner and co-writer, a role that has shifted as the series brings in Harthan and Helbing.

Hailing from 20th Television, “Eragon” follows an ordinary teenager who is chosen to become the first Dragon Rider in over a hundred years, prompting him to forge an unbreakable bond with his dragon, master ancient magic and challenge the mad king who destroyed the Riders, per the official logline.

20th Television has optioned the rights to the complete “The Inheritance Cycle” series of books, with “Eragon” marking the first of the series.

Beyond “High Potential,” Harthan has served as an EP on the Disney+’s “Crossover,” ABC’s “The Company You Keep,” Fox’s “The Resident” and Fox’s “Rosewood,” which he created and wrote. He also served as a writer and producer on “Psych,” “The Kill Point,” “Crash” and “Dominion.”

Helbing is best known co-creating and showrunning the CW’s “Superman & Lois” as well as serving as an executive producer and showrunner on the CW’s “The Flash.” He’s also developing “Mech Cadets” with Brent Fletcher at Disney+, based on the Boom! Studios graphic novel.

Helbing is repped by CAA and Kevin Kelly at Gendler, Kelly and Cunningham while Webb is repped by CAA and Lichter, Grossman, Nichols, Feldman, Rogal, Shikora & Clark.

Paolini is represented by Simon Lipskar at Writers House for literary projects and represented by Sylvie Rabineau at WME and Matthew Sugarman at Weintraub Tobin for film and TV projects.
