Mohamed Salah will miss crucial games in Liverpool‘s title challenge as the winger will likely captain Egypt at Afcon 2023.
The 31-year-old star will be determined to end his country’s 14-year wait for continental success, having lost on penalties to Senegal in the 2021 final.
Manchester United will also be left without a goalkeeper with Andre Onana set to appear in between the sticks for Cameroon – Erik ten Hag will be forced to turn to Altay Bayindir.

When is the African Cup of Nations
- The 34th African Cup of Nations will get underway on Saturday, January 13, 2024.
- It was originally scheduled to take place during the Northern Hemisphere’s summer but was moved because of weather concerns.
- The tournament kept its name – Afcon 2023 – for sponsorship reasons, despite taking place in 2024.
- The final of the tournament will be on Sunday, February 11, 2024.
