Notes: Artur Beterbiev demolished Callum Smith in typical Beterbiev fashion, as Smith again clearly failed the test at actual top level. Smith is a good fighter, he drops a few spots, and he might damn well beat everyone he fell behind this week.

Beterbiev is No. 2 still, could be No. 1, it’s him and Bivol and then the rest.

Notes: Arnold Barboza Jr did the job anticipated against over-matched Xolisani Ndongeni, and now he hopes to get a bigger fight. And he deserves one. But it might still be tough to get one unless he winds up being Ryan Garcia’s actual next opponent if/when Garcia doesn’t fight Rolly Romero and doesn’t fight Devin Haney.

Notes: Jason Moloney successfully defended his WBO title in a tough fight with Saul Sanchez, which you should hit up ESPN+ or your favorite criminal empire and make sure you see if you missed it, we don’t get that many really good fights this early in the year and that was one.

Moloney’s not special, but a clear top fighter in the bantamweight division as left in Naoya Inoue’s wake. Those top three are all paired right together, Grandpa Donaire is a wild card, and Junto comin’, which could be the arrival of the new No. 1 in late February.
