Jets Owner Woody Johnson Mercilessly Blasted Zach Wilson Without Even Saying His Name

New York Jets owner Woody Johnson made his feelings about quarterback Zach Wilson very clear. And he did so without even mentioning the Jets signal-caller’s name. 

Johnson, who attended the NFL Honors event on Thursday night, spoke to reporters and applied some pressure to coach Robert Saleh and general manager Joe Douglas, emphasizing that he expects the 2024 Jets to win more than the seven games that the 2023 squad amassed. 

But Johnson also effectively signaled the end of Wilson’s tenure in New York, telling the media that the franchise needs to get a backup QB because they “didn’t have one last year,” per Brian Costello of the New York Post.

Wilson, the No. 2 pick in the 2021 draft, was reportedly informed by the team that he will be traded, The Athletic's Dianna Russini reported in January. 

However, Johnson’s words here are all but publicly stating that Wilson, who was among the worst starting QBs in the league from a statistical standpoint during his three seasons with the team, won’t be back in 2024. 

A change of scenery is likely best for both Wilson and the Jets.
