The annual NFL Combine concludes today with the Offensive linemen doing the last of their drills. The bench press results will become available later today. There is so much to unravel from the weekend.

Chris Mortensen long-time ESPN writer, passed away

Sunday afternoon, ESPN released a statement that sent shockwaves through Indianapolis. This post from Adam Schefter is just one of hundreds reacting to the news:

An absolutely devastating day. Mort was one of the greatest reporters in sports history, and an even better man. Sincerest condolences to his family, and all who knew and loved him. So many did. Mort was the very best. He will be forever missed and remembered. https://t.co/7b7Im0vIFs

Justin Fields Still A Bear… For Now

As the Combine weekend began, rumors suggesting Ryan Poles had heard offers from at least two teams seeking to acquire Bears QB Justin Fields surfaced almost immediately. Pittsburgh had reportedly made an offer. Atlanta was also in the mix. Then, more stories emerged, quickly disputing the trade proposals. Pittsburgh may want to start the season with Kenny Pickett. Stories out of Atlanta suggested they would perhaps pursue Kirk Cousins or Baker Mayfield via free agency.

As the weekend drew to a close, another team was revealed that may have interest in acquiring Fileds:

Caleb Williams Impressed

Williams appeared poised, confident and relaxed all weekend. He answered every question and had fun with his teammates competing at the Combine. His demeanor was far from the perception that he was a Prim Dona. Good news for Bears fans. The Bears will bring him to Chicago for a physical and meetings some time after his pro day, which is scheduled in California on March 20.

History Is Made!

Congratulations go out to Texas Longhorns WR Wavier Worthy. The 6′ 1″ receiver ran a blistering 4.25 40-yard time trial on his first attempt on Saturday. Worthy, who was last in line, ran his second attempt as his group finished their second attempt. The decision raised his stock. He was unofficially timed at 4.22 seconds, tying him for the fastest 40 time ever. After review, the official time was posted at 4.21. Worthy now owns the fastest recorded 40 time in the history of the NFL Combine.

Free Agency Begins March 11.

Commonly referred to as the “Legal Tampering” stage of free agency begins one week from today. Look for the Bears to make a move on both lines. A center on offense and an edge to complement Montez Sweat.
