Aston Villa 0 Tottenham 4: Spurs run riot to gain upper hand in top-four race after McGinn’s senseless red card

TOTTENHAM took a huge step towards Champions League qualification by claiming all three points against rivals Aston Villa.

Spurs went into the game five adrift of Unai Emery’s side, knowing defeat would open up a real gap.

But a second-half blitz closed the gap – and Ange Postecoglou’s men can overtake Villa if they win their game in hand.

James Maddison broke the deadlock just after the break as he got on the end of a superb cross.

Then moments later Brennan Johnson’s emphatic finish into the roof of the net made it two.

Villa captain John McGinn saw red for an aggressive tackle on Destiny Udogie.

His opposite number Son Heung-min got on the scoresheet in the first minute of injury time.

But there was still time for Timo Werner to get in on the act with a smart finish beyond helpless Emi Martinez.

Here’s how the action unfolded at Villa Park
