The 30-year-old Safety was originally drafted in 2016 by the Tennessee Titans. The Titans signed Byard to a five-year extension before the 2019 season. Last season, Tennessee traded Byard to the Philadelphia Eagles for a fifth and sixth-round pick in this year’s draft. Philadelphia released Byard as a salary cap casualty and the Bears have pounced on the opportunity to sign a sure tackler to their roster.
In 2020, Byard led the Titans with 111 tackles. He also recorded one interception, seven passes defended, and a forced fumble. In 2021, he was named to the Pro Bowl and earned first-team All-Pro honors.
The deal is reported to be worth a base of $15 Million.
