The latest 2024 NFL mock draft from Sports Illustrated has Bo Nix and Michael Penix Jr. in the first round

Are they really first-round QBs?

NFL free agency is far from over at this point — check out our tracker of all the big names and where they signed! — but there are still mock drafts to be made that may have changed a bit due to signings.

What I can tell you is this: there are still teams that need quarterbacks, and the buzz over how many are going in the first is still very much there.

In the latest NFL mock draft from our Christian D’Andrea, four quarterbacks were taken including Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy. And in the latest mock from Sports Illustrated, Luke Easterling has Oregon’s Bo Nix to the Denver Broncos at No. 24 (they trade down in this scenario). And at No. 29, it’s Michael Penix Jr. to the Raiders:

Gardner Minshew and Aidan O’Connell can’t be the Raiders’ only options at the game’s most important position. Penix has a well-documented injury history, but he got a clean bill of health from the medical exams at the NFL Scouting Combine, and he brings upside that Minshew and O’Connell simply can’t touch. Trading back into the first round to get a potential franchise passer on a rookie deal with that fifth-year option is worth the future second-round pick it would likely cost to make the move up the board.
