Ump inexplicably ejected Aaron Boone over something a fan said in the stands and mics picked up the entire argument

It might be a pleasant early Monday afternoon at the ballpark, but for umpire Hunter Wendelstedt, he showed up to work looking for a confrontation. And the result was the biggest Ump Show display we’ll probably see all season.

In the first inning of the Yankees’ game against the A’s, Aaron Boone was evidently upset over a lead-off hit by pitch call. And ironically said something to Wendelstedt just as the ump missed a call in the Yankees’ favor.

Wendelstedt warned Boone to stop chirping and threatened him with an ejection. Boone seemed to take the message and stood at the edge of the dugout steps quietly. Yet, Wendelstedt mistook a fan’s heckling for Boone and ejected the Yankees manager anyway. The scene was absolutely wild. (Warning: NSFW language)

It was clear that Boone didn’t say anything back there as the camera was on him. But best of all, the mics at Yankee Stadium picked up the entire exchange between Boone and Wendelstedt.

At one point, Wendelstedt straight-up admitted that he didn’t care who actually said it. He was ejecting Boone anyway. A replay would show that a fan in a blue shirt said something that caused Wendelstedt to react.

It was an unbelievable display from Wendelstedt who was clearly in the wrong. And fans could not believe that he actually ejected Boone for something Boone did not say.
