Devin Haney says weight did play a role against Ryan Garcia, and that he’d like a rematch.

Devin Haney is speaking out after his loss to Ryan Garcia last Saturday, saying that he does believe Garcia not making weight played a factor in the outcome, and that he would “love” a rematch that would “give fans a fair fight within an agreed weight.”

“I came up short but this (is) boxing, and if anyone knows me they know that I am a true competitor, and always wanted to test my skills against the best fighters in the world,” Haney said on social media.

“Ryan, despite the circumstances, was victorious that night, and that’s fine. I do feel like weight played a role in it but only Allah knows. I would love to run it back and give the fans a FAIR fight within an agreed weight.”

Haney (31-1, 15 KO) still has the WBC super lightweight title after the defeat, which has been another controversy of sorts, but any rematch with Garcia (25-1, 20 KO) would come north of 140 lbs, as Garcia and Oscar De La Hoya both say he’ll be fighting at either 147 or maybe catchweights around 144 lbs.

Potential commercial demand will also play a key role in whether or not we see Garcia vs Haney 2 any time soon.

Haney added that he’s currently enjoying time with his family and friends, and thanked those who have reached out, saying he is “overwhelmed with love.”
