Rodriguez takes part in media work out

This coming weekend we’ll see IBF Bantamweight champion Emmanuel Rodriguez (22-2, 13) defending his title against mandatory challenger Ryosuke Nishida (8-0, 1) [西田凌佑] in Osaka, with the bout being streamed on Abema. Today, ahead of that clash, Rodriguez took part in a media workout and press conference, doing so at the KWORLD3 Gym in Osaka.

At the press conference Rodriguez, who arrived in Japan on April 23rd, said he had gotten rid of the jet lag and that his weight loss was going well, with the champion now just 4lbs over the Bantamweight limit, which should be easy to lose by the official weigh in. He also explained that to prepare for the bout he has been training in Mexico.

Regarding the bout he stated “I have been practicing with my trainer to get an idea of the fight” and added “Since this is an away fight, I want to be careful about that. Of course, I plan to win by KO”.

As for the work out, Rodriguez did some shadow boxing, some Mitt work and then worked the drum mitt, with the show's promoter Koki Kameda, who explained that Rodriguez didn't really hit hard, but was a compact puncher. That seemed to be echoed by Nishida’s trainer, Kosuke Takeichi, who watched over the session and seemed confident his man had what was needed to take the victory here.
