NHL fans were stunned Sam Bennett's game-tying Game 4 goal wasn't disallowed for goaltender interference

Does anyone know what goaltender interference is anymore?

Boston Bruins fans seemingly have every right to be upset after a crucial Stanley Cup Playoffs call went against them on Sunday.

During Game 4 of their second round series against the Florida Panthers, the Bruins held a slight 2-1 edge in the early goings of the third period. The Bruins needed a win in Game 4 badly, as the Panthers led the series going into Sunday 2-1 looking to bring things back to Florida for the final knockout punch.

Things started well for the Bruins on Sunday, who took a 2-0 lead in the first period, but the Panthers were able to claw back over the course of the game. Then, with three minutes and 41 seconds gone in the third, Sam Bennett tied the game for the Panthers with a goal in close on Jeremy Swayman.

However, the Bruins challenged the goal for goaltender interference, as Bennett knocked Charlie Coyle into Swayman before the goal, impeding his attempt to stop the puck. And after a review … the call stood on the ice.

Wait, what?

That push definitely seems like textbook goaltender interference, especially since it’s not legal to shove an opposing player into the netminder on a scoring play. And yet, the officials deemed the goal a good one and the Panthers were able to tie the game.

NHL fans, on the other hand, were stunned Bennett’s goal was allowed to stand despite a pretty clear-cut goaltender interference.
