Leeds Utd & England U-21 star’s £60k Land Rover smashes into cop car outside stadium just hours before Norwich playoff

A LEEDS United star’s Land Rover has crashed into a police car outside the club’s stadium ahead of their crucial play-off semi-final tonight.

A car belonging to Charlie Cresswell, 21, was involved in the smash outside Elland Road just hours before his side take on Norwich.

The defender, who has also played for England U21s, is understood to have been driving the vehicle at the time.

Pictures from the scene show a Land Rover Defender and a severely damaged West Yorkshire Police patrol car.

The crash took place as players were set to report to the ground this morning ahead of the crunch second-leg.

Emergency services attended the scene, near to the club ticket office, shortly before 10.15am.

Police confirmed an officer suffered minor injuries in the crash.

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police added: “At 10.13am today (Thursday), police were notified of a collision involving a police car and a Land Rover Defender on Elland Road, Leeds.

“”An officer received medical treatment for minor injuries. “No other injuries were reported.”

The force says enquiries were “ongoing” into the circumstances of the collision.

It comes as Leeds prepare for their biggest game of the season tonight, with a chance to play at Wembley and keep their hopes for an immediate Premier League return alive.

Preston-born Cresswell has been a regular substitute for Daniel Farke’s side, but has found minutes on the pitch hard to come by.

The footballer was part of the England U21 squad which won the 2023 European Under-21 Championship.

Leeds United have been approached for comment.
