DJ Moore Is Already A Huge Fan Of Shane Waldron’s Offense

The Chicago Bears made the difficult decision to dismiss offensive coordinator Luke Getsy this off-season. They felt it was in the best interest of all parties that a fresh start was had. Getsy headed off to Las Vegas where he took the same position with the Raiders, aided by glowing reviews from GM Ryan Poles and head coach Matt Eberflus. The Bears opted to find somebody with more experience and a solid pedigree working with quarterbacks. Their choice became Shane Waldron, formerly of the Seattle Seahawks. It would be interesting to hear how veterans on the team would react to his arrival. DJ Moore could be among the most resistant to the change.

Remember, he had the best season of his career under Getsy in 2023. Moore might not like the idea of losing somebody that got him the ball. However, it appears there isn’t anything to worry about. The star got his first taste of Waldron’s system during Organized Team Activities this past week. Predictably, the offense didn’t always function at a high level. However, Moore didn’t need long to notice the potential. He told the media after Thursday’s practice that he is already a fan.

What he says is confirmed by the past few seasons. The Bears offensive coordinator liked to spread the ball around in Seattle. Five different players had at least 40 targets last season for the Seahawks. Seven had at least 30. It’s clear Waldron has no intention of letting defenses zero in on any specific receivers. By spreading the ball around, it forces them to defend “every blade of grass,” as coaches like to say. Such an approach can actually be good for players like Moore because it ends up giving them extra space to operate.

One thing is certain. The scheme is wide receiver-friendly. DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett each had two 1,000-yard seasons across three years under Waldron. That is a great sign for DJ Moore, Keenan Allen, and Rome Odunze. He will find ways to get the ball in their hands. While the scheme might be complex, it can absolutely dissect opponents when run properly. Go back and watch what Seattle did in Dallas last year. The potential for this system is sky-high when executed.
