Why Caitlin Clark might still play for Team USA at the 2024 Olympics

Caitlin Clark might still play for Team USA at this year's Olympics in this scenario.

While Indiana Fever rookie guard Caitlin Clark didn’t make the 2024 U.S. women’s national basketball team for this summer’s Olympics, there’s still a path where the hoops phenom could still play in Paris.

Former WNBA star and ESPN basketball commentator Rebecca Lobo mentioned during an appearance on Get Up that an injury to Las Vegas Aces guard Chelsea Gray could hypothetically open up a path for Clark to join the team.

It’d make sense to bring Clark in to come off the bench for Team USA if Gray isn’t healthy, though Lobo adds that the Aces guard is expected to be ready for the 2024 Olympics.

Although, Atlanta Fever guard Allisha Gray, Dallas Wings guard Arike Ogunbowale and Washington Mystics guard Ariel Atkins present more experienced options over the rookie Clark for Team USA if Gray is unable to go.

The most likely scenario is, as Lobo notes, for Clark to make Team USA down the road as she gets more experience and Gray to play in Paris.

However, there is a scenario for Clark where she still makes the roster because of Gray’s health. We’ll just have to monitor how things play out.
