United are now set to open talks with Ten Hag over a new contract.

While he has also agreed to take a back seat when it comes to recruitment, according to journalist Peter Hall.

Ten Hag has had a big influence on transfers since joining the club, identifying the likes of Antony, Lisandro Martinez and Sofyan Amrabat.

He also wanted to sign Frenkie de Jong when he first joined but the midfielder chose to stay at Barcelona.

Co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe intends to implement a strict new policy when it comes to recruitment.

And that could see United focus on bringing in targets under the age of 25, with Crystal Palace pair Michael Olise and Eberechi Eze of interest.

Ratcliffe does not want any Galacticos signings and Ten Hag will only be asked what positions he would like to see improved.

The new Old Trafford chiefs will then find three candidates for that role who fit in with the model of player and team they want.
