Gervonta Davis reveals post-fight conversation with Ryan Garcia: ‘I’ll kick his ass again’

Gervonta Davis was just minutes removed from his vicious knockout win over Frank Martin when he ran into his “No. 1 fan,” Ryan Garcia.

The meeting was actually a friendly encounter between the former foes, and “Tank” even had a laugh at the t-shirt Garcia wore to the event. On the front, Garcia’s shirt read “Tank’s No. 1 Fan,” while the back said “Rematch Me B*tch.”

None of it seemed to bother Davis, who shared a handshake and a hug with Garcia before he continued his celebration but he addressed the conversation during the post-fight press conference.

“He’s crazy,” Davis said of Garcia. “He’s crazy talking about rematch. He said I was the best at 135 to 142 [pounds]. He said that. He said he wants to fight me again. I’ll kick his ass again.”

Davis largely dominated their first encounter, which included a knockdown in the second round and then the body shot that ended Garcia’s night in the seventh. In the months following that loss, Garcia complained about the weight cut as he attempted to get down to 140 pounds, although he ultimately hit the scale 3.2 pounds over the limit.

The extra weight didn’t help on fight night after Davis detonated a massive punch to the body that put Garcia down and out.

Since losing to Davis in 2023, Garcia bounced back with two consecutive wins in a row, including a stunning, three knockdown performance to defeat Devin Haney, though that victory now stands in peril after Garcia tested positive for the banned substance ostarine following the fight. As a result, Garcia faces a potential suspension and/or fines from the New York State Athletic Commission, and the win could possibly get overturned to a no contest due to the positive drug test.

As for Davis, he doesn’t seem to be losing any sleep over facing Garcia again, because he knows he has a lot of options available to him after knockout win over Martin.

One name that came up repeatedly on Saturday night was Vasiliy Lomachenko, who dominated George Kambosos Jr. back in May to claim the vacant IBF lightweight title. Davis was open to that matchup, but didn’t exactly shy away from any names mentioned to him.

“For sure,” Davis answered when asked about fighting Lomachenko. “As long as we go back to the drawing board. I’m willing to fight all of them.”

Another potential fight could come against undefeated WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson, who holds a perfect 21-0 record, including his recent win over Edwin De Los Santos.

On paper, that might be a fight that pits two of the best boxers in the world against each other. But Davis smirked when asked if he felt like that matchup might not deliver, as Stevenson’s elusive style could force him to chase his opponent around the ring in a cat-and-mouse game for 12 rounds.

“You know how it would go,” Davis said when addressing Stevenson. “Everybody in this room knows how it would go. I guess it would be good for the sport if we fight, now or later.”
