Portugal vs Czech Republic preview
Roberto Martinez managing a national side with a golden generation at an international tournament… sounds familiar.
Obviously it didn’t go to plan with Belgium, but there are reasons to believe that things could be different with Portugal.
The 2016 champions are the last of the leading candidates to make their Euro 2024 bow, taking on the Czech Republic on Tuesday evening.
And they’ll be eager to make a statement having watched their rivals in Germany, England, Spain and Italy all collect maximum points in their opening fixtures.
Martinez has an array of talent at his fingertips in what some consider to be the strongest squad at these European Championships.

And they enter in rude health. They were the only side to win 100% of their games in qualifying, whilst scoring more goals (36) than any other team and conceded fewer (2) than everyone else.
As for the Czech Republic, they have the youngest and least experienced squad at Euro 2024.
History is in their favour though having reached their eighth-consecutive European Championship finals and have progressed to the knockout stages in four of the last seven.
They’ve won their last five on the bounce scoring 16 goals in the process, including Avery credible 2-1 victory over Norway in Oslo.

Portugal vs Czech Republic betting tips
Goalscorer
Hardly groundbreaking, but you would have to fancy Cristiano Ronaldo to get on the scoresheet on Tuesday evening.
The Portuguese icon, 39, is entering his sixth and likely final European Championships still holding the record for most goals in the competition with 14.
He stands a good chance of adding to that tally with the likes of Rafael Leao, Bernardo Silva, Joao Felix and Bruno Fernandes in behind.
He scored 44 goals in 45 games for Al-Nassr last season, and enters Euro 2024 having netted 12 goals in his last 11 starts for Portugal – including five braces.

Assist
Where there is goals, there is assists and that’s more often than not comes from the feet of Bruno Fernandes.
The Manchester United star, 29, provided 13 assists in a difficult campaign for the Red Devils and boasts 20 in 67 appearances at international level.
In fact, Bruno has NINE assists in his last 13 games for Portugal and could fill his boots against a very youthful Czech Republic side.

Goals galore
Not a huge explanation required here given what’s been written above.
But clearly the handbrake is off under Roberto Martinez. The Portuguese were always a very pragmatic and disciplined outfit at major tournaments, but Martinez – as we know – will give his side licence to throw caution to the wind.
