Spain vs Italy preview
The stage is set for a cracker as 2012 European Champions Spain clash with current holders Italy on Thursday in Gelsenkirchen.
Both enjoyed winning starts to their Euro 2024 campaigns, and both will likely top Group B if they are able to secure three points at the Veltins-Arena.
Spain impressed when beating Croatia in their opener.
Alvaro Morata, Fabian Ruiz and Dani Carvajal essentially settled the outcome before the half-time whistle and made an emphatic statement to their tournament rivals.

As for Italy, they might have conceded the fastest goal in the tournament’s history against Albania – but their response was tremendous.
Alessandro Bastoni equalised after 11 minutes before Nicolo Barella fired them in front five minutes later.
Luciano Spalletti’s team ended the contest with 68% possession, 17 efforts at goal, seven blocked shots and five attempts on target.
Recent history would suggest a Spanish win is on the cards given they’ve won their last two H2H meetings, although Italy have only lost once in their last ten games against Spain at the Euros and World Cup finals.

Goal or assist
Forward Lamine Yamal looked right at home for Spain against Croatia, despite only being 16 years and 338 days old.
Making his eighth appearance for Spain, Yamal set up Dani Carvajal’s goal to become the youngest player to serve up an assist at the European Championships.
And I think he’s more than capable of doing it again, or perhaps even getting on the scoresheet.
Yamal provided three key passes, two successful crosses and created two big chances for his side, whilst managing a shot on target and ending the game with man xG of 0.47 — the fourth-highest of any player on the pitch.

Nice tackle
Perhaps a bit of a niche betting market, but there’s good value for Spain talisman Alvaro Morata to get stuck in against Italy on Thursday.
The striker, 31, was a menace for the Croatia backline having managed three tackles before his withdrawal in the 67th minute. He also won four of his nine ground duels, and both of his aerial duels.
Morata was withdrawn with an injury, but declared himself fit to play Italy after the match, he said: “A strong blow. My leg was getting too heavy, but I’m ready for Italy.”

Carded
My eyes are instantly draw to either Federico Dimarco or Giovanni Di Lorenzo to receive a caution on Thursday.
The Italian full-backs could have their hands full with speed merchants Nico Williams and Lamine Yamal running down the channels.
I’ll side with Di Lorenzo at a healthy 17/4 given Dimarco managed to avoid a caution of any kind in 40 appearances for Inter Milan last season.
