Jack Catterall will face Regis Prograis in August.

Jack Catterall will return to the ring on Aug. 24, facing Regis Prograis in a DAZN main event from Manchester, England.

The 30-year-old Catterall (29-1, 13 KO) was last out on May 25, beating Josh Taylor in a rematch of their controversial 2022 fight, where Catterall took his only loss thus far.

Prograis (29-2, 24 KO) most recently fought in Dec. 2023, losing a one-sided fight to Devin Haney, and dropping the WBC super lightweight title in the progess. The 35-year-old “Rougarou” looked pretty rough in both of his 2023 outings, including a split decision win over Danielito Zorrilla.

Catterall’s win over Taylor was more about settling a grudge than anything, given Taylor wasn’t exactly red hot coming into that fight, but it’s good to see he’ll turn around pretty quickly, even if Prograis also appears to be past his best days, and obviously so.

But the division isn’t exactly wide open for a bigger fight for Catterall, and staying busy is probably plenty appealing to “El Gato,” who has been sat on the shelf waiting on Taylor a lot for the last two years and change.

For Prograis, the fight will be about getting back into the race at 140. For Catterall, it’s about confirming — again — his status as a top contender at the weight.
