He felt there was a golden opportunity for the organization to redefine expectations at that position. That is how things led to Caleb Williams.
Not only did the USC star have the arm strength, accuracy, and mobility of a potential top quarterback, but it was his natural charisma and ability to connect with teammates that stood out the most. If you weren’t sure whether that was a real thing, cornerback Tyrique Stevenson confirmed as much with a comment during a celebrity tournament for the American Cornhole League. Though he lost in the final to teammate Braxton Jones, he took satisfaction in knowing he knocked off a Green Bay Packer earlier in the tournament.

He’s in early, leaves late, and isn’t prone to making mistakes more than once. Even the starting defense has admitted he learns fast. Stevenson should know. The young quarterback has burned him in practice more than once. Yet it’s Williams’ outgoing nature and personable attitude that seems to win guys over. He comes across as someone you want to play for, not just with.
Coining his corny catchphrase might be a small thing, but it carries a big message. Step by step, Caleb Williams is making an impression on this team. He has them embracing the identity of being Chicago Bears. It is okay. That isn’t a crime. So what if others think it’s cringy? They don’t matter. Be proud of who you are and who you represent. It feels like a long time since someone genuinely embraced what it means to be a Bear. Williams has done so. Now, others are taking his cue.
