Martinez arrives in Japan ahead of Ioka clash
Later today we get a highly anticipated Super Flyweight bout as young sensation Jesse "Bam" Rodriguez (19-0, 12) takes on WBC champion Juan Francisco Estrada (44-3, 28) in the US. That’s one of two fantastic bouts at 115lbs over the coming weeks, with the other set to see champions unifying in Japan as WBA "super" champion Kazuto Ioka (31-2-1, 16) [井岡一翔] takes on IBF champion Fernando Daniel Martinez (16-0, 9) in Tokyo.
Yesterday, ahead of that bout in Japan, Martinez landed in Japan, after had some issues with his travel, though despite the issues he seemed in great spirits and was full of smiles for the media at the airport.
Martinez had a 20 day sparring camp in Las Vegas, and speaking about his preparation "I was able to have some good sparring at the end, and I was able to finish with good preparation. All that's left is to adjust my weight". As for his views on Ioka he stated "I don't have any particular impression, but he's a good fighter".
It appears he really is full of confidence for this bout, easily the most important bout of his career, as he stated "I want to put on a shocking, war-like match. I want to show a KO that will satisfy the audience."
