Takami shines, Murata and Iwata pick up wins, Casama upsets Kaneko
Earlier today we had the latest show in the Dynamic Glove series, as Teiken looked to showcase some of their best and brightest hopefuls, with several fighters taking a step up in class.
The show kicked off with Masahiko Ohashi (4-0, 1) [大橋昌彦] taking a 4 round majority decision over Yu Ezaki (2-2, 1) [江崎由] in a hotly contested bout at Super Flyweight. Ezaki tried to press the action, but through much of the contest Ohashi was too accurate and repeatedly landed straight southpaw left hands, which caught the eye more often than anything Ozaki did.
Another 4 rounder on this card saw Atsuki Sano (4-0, 4) [佐野篤希] grab victory from the jaws of defeat as her landed a perfect counter shot on Jotaro Suzuki (1-1) [鈴木丈太朗], to take his 4th victory in as many bouts. With less than 2 minutes of the bout left Sano, who had looked under pressure in the final round, landed a peach of a right hook that dropped Suzuki hard. Suzuki did beat the count, but was stumbling into the referee who was forced to stop the contest.
In a very impressive showing Kyosuke Takami (7-0, 5) [高見享介] easily out boxed former world title challenger Wulan Tuolehazi (15-7-2, 7) [乌兰 托了哈孜], to take a wide unanimous decision win, and take a step towards a title fight. There is no denying Takami is a real talent, and the 22 year old got some good rounds here, much like he got in December against Lito Dante. He's perhaps only a fight or two from a regional title bout, and it's clear he has a very, very bright future. As for Tuolehazi, he played his part, showed his toughness and never stopped trying, but was second best throughout, as he suffered his third straight loss. Despite his record starting to fall apart, Tuolehazi will likely be seen as a good test for fighters, especially prospects, and we wouldn’t be surprised at all by Japanese promoters bringing him back to test emerging hopefuls.
One of two Japan Vs Philippines bouts saw Subaru Murata (7-0, 7) [村田昴] extend his unbeaten record as he forced a 6th round stoppage of Bryan James Wild (12-1-1, 6). Wild had shown some ambition early on, but it was beaten from him by clean, solid, spiteful shots by Murata, specifically to the body. Wild showed plenty of toughness, but completely over-matched, and seemed somewhat relieved when the fight was stopped, saving him from more punishment.
The other Japan Vs Philippines bout ended in genuine shock as Michael Casama (10-2-1, 10) came out with a point to prove, as he shocked the previously unbeaten Kota Kaneko (5-1, 4) [金子虎旦]. Kaneko was wobbled about 80 seconds into the bout, and from there on Casama refused to back off, instantly dragging Kaneko into a shoot out, before Kaneko could regain his composure. The relentless assault of the Filipino forced the referee to jump in with less than a minute of the round left, even though Kaneko remained on his feet throughout he was taking a beating.
In the main event former world title challenge Shokichi Iwata (13-1, 10) [岩田翔吉] seemed to book his place in a second world title fight, as he stopped Filipino Jahzeel Trinidad (11-1, 6) in the 6th round. Iwata dropped his man in round 3, did the same in round 6, before closing the show later that same round, with Trinidad being pounded until the referee jumped in to save him.
