Emma Raducanu ‘gave Andy Murray a different reason for mixed doubles Wimbledon withdrawal from the public excuse’
EMMA RADUCANU provided Andy Murray with ‘a different reason’ for her withdrawal from their scheduled Wimbledon doubles match, according to a report.
The 21-year old pulled out of what could’ve been Murray’s final SW19 match on Saturday citing an issue with her wrist.

But that wasn’t supposed to be the end of the road, with Murray and Raducanu forming a British dream team to take part in the mixed doubles.
They were due to face Marcelo Arevalo and Zhang Shuai, with that match scheduled for Saturday afternoon.
But just hours before they were due to take to the court, Raducanu dramatically withdrew.
She was understood to have informed two-time Wimbledon champion Murray she was feeling soreness in her wrist.
Raducanu underwent surgery on BOTH of her wrists last year.
In a statement, the former US Open winner said: “Unfortunately I woke up with stiffness in my right wrist this morning, so therefore I have decided to make the very tough decision to withdraw from the mixed doubles tonight.
“I’m disappointed as I was really looking forward to playing with Andy but got to take care.”
Raducanu had beaten ninth seed Maria Sakkari in singles action the day before and was scheduled to face Lulu Sun in the round of 16 yesterday, with the mixed doubles match sandwiched inbetween.
She was healthy enough to take to the court yesterday, but dramatically crashed out to the New Zealand qualifier.
But now there’s been another twist.
That’s because it’s being claimed by The Times that Raducanu had actually given Murray a DIFFERENT reason for withdrawing.
A source close to Murray’s camp is quoted as saying: “The surprise was more to do with the explanation given publicly and less about the withdrawal itself.”
What that apparent different reason is has not been disclosed.
There’s been quite a fall-out following Raducanu’s withdrawal.
Andy’s Murray Judy described it as “astonishing” on social media.
Raducanu was asked directly about that comment after her singles elimination but said she had not seen what Judy had said.
Raducanu said: “I haven’t seen her reaction so I don’t know (but) I’m sure she didn’t mean it.”
She added: “With every decision people were entitled to their opinions. Of course, there was a bit of a cloud around the decision but I don’t think I would have done it any other way.”
After receiving a backlash, Judy Murray returned to social media to clarify her ‘astonishing’ comment.
She posted on X: “Not sure anyone understands sarcasm these days.
“Pretty sure the scheduling (fourth match court one with a singles the following day) will have played a major part in any decision making.”
While Murray’s Wimbledon experience is over as a player, his career isn’t quite done and dusted yet.
He’ll head to Paris to represent Team GB at the Olympics later this month, fitness pending.
