Yasuda and Carcosia make weight for regional title bout

Tomorrow fight fans in Japan will be able to see Katsuya Yasuda (13-1, 8) [保田 克也] will make his third defense of the WBO Asia Pacific Lightweight, as he faces Filipino challenger Presco Carcosia (12-3-1, 9) at Korakuen Hall. Today, ahead of that bout, the two men took part in their weigh-in for their contest.

On the scales Yasuda was 134.7lbs, comfortably under the limit, whilst Carcosia was 132.3lbs, right between the Super Featherweight and Lightweight limits, with both men looking in fantastic condition.

At the weigh-in Yasuda explained he was in great condition "Usually it's hard to cut weight and I can't move, but this time I was able to move and practice well until the end." He also spoke positively of Carcosia explaining "He has strong punches, a flexible upper body, and a good sense for defense. When I lined him up, I thought he was surprisingly big. He seems to be in good condition." However he sounded determined to make a statement in the ring, stating "My opponent is a fighter who is not highly regarded worldwide. I know that I'm expected to perform well. Mori (meaning Musashi Mori) went all the way to a decision, so I want to beat him within the eighth round."

As for Carcosia, he seemed to be respectful of Yasuda, explaining that Yasuda “is strong, so I'll fight carefully. I'll do my best tomorrow."
