FanDuel fined, forced to pay more than $230K in wagers for bets taken on pre-recorded PFL fights

FanDuel was hit with a $2,000 fine and forced to pay out more than $230,000 in wagers after accepting 34 bets on PFL fights that actually happened a week earlier.

The debacle unfolded back in 2022 when FanDuel took wagers on PFL fights that were scheduled to air on April 1 but in reality had already happened on March 25.

The event was a PFL Challengers series card that aired on tape delay on Fubo TV.

New Jersey gambling regulators handed down the fine, with FanDuel agreeing to pay it, although the company made no statement regarding the penalty.

In a letter made public on Monday, the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement stated that FanDuel said it was not notified by its data-feed providers that the PFL card was pre-recorded and just airing at a later date. As a result, FanDuel created manual betting markets with information the company received from PFL

“FanDuel confirmed that its traders failed to confirm with PFL that the event had previously occurred and was being presented via a tape delay,” New Jersey Deputy Attorney General Gina DeAnnuntis wrote in the letter.

FanDuel informed the state that a total of 26 online wagers and eight retail bets were taken on the PFL fights. It wasn’t until International Betting Integrity — a company tasked with monitoring betting patterns and identifying potentially suspicious betting behavior — notified FanDuel that the company learned the event was pre-recorded.

As a result, FanDuel had to pay out wagers totaling $231,094 and the state required the company to update its internal controls to ensure a mistake like this doesn’t happen again.
