“Boots” breaks down and stops Avanesyan after five rounds

Jaron Ennis piled up a lot of early punishment to the point where David Avanesyan’s corner stopped the fight after the fifth.

Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis (32-0, 29 KOs) mostly had the homecoming he was hoping for in tonight’s DAZN main event, stopping David Avanesyan (30-5-1, 18 KOs) after five full round of action.

The fight started off with Boots showcasing his speed, power, and fluidity, with him feeling so comfortable that he ended up fighting most of the fight right inside the pocket, trading punches and combinations with Avanesyan and clearly getting the better of the exchanges.

The punishing and steady body attack coming from Boots began to take a toll on Avanesyan, and Boots would then time a nice left handed counter that dropped Avanesyan in the fifth round. Avanesyan would get up from that knockdown but would have to suffer more sharp punches while viewers could watch him wincing at some of the body punches he took.

Avanesyan would make it to the bell in the fifth round but at that point Avanesyan’s corner saw that he was suffering and didn’t have much resistance left to offer, and decided to call a halt to the fight in between rounds.

In the post-fight interview Ennis would say he wasn’t completely satisfied with his performance believing he did have some ring rust that hampered his timing, but did say he was happy to get the job done. Avanesyan, meanwhile, is suspected to have suffered a broken jaw during the fight.

• Jalil Hackett UD-10 Peter Dobson

Jalil Hackett (9-0, 7 KOs) took a unanimous decision win tonight but it didn’t come as easily as he might’ve expected. Hackett got off to a fast start but that seemed to be what veteran Peter Dobson (16-2, 9 KOs) was prepared for as he attempted to weather an early storm and make his stand in the second half of the fight. Unfortunately for Dobson, Hackett didn’t fade quite as quickly as he needed him too and that allowed Hackett to take points win on the official cards despite Dobson taking some of the later rounds.

• Skye Nicolson UD-10 Dyana Vargas

Skye Nicolson (11-0, 1 KO) cruised to a unanimous decision win tonight, clearly levels above Dyana Vargas (19-2, 12 KOs) who has extreme difficulty landing leather against Nicolson’s style. Nicolson was able to clearly dominate just by using her jab and occasional straight left hand, both of which scarcely missed tonight. Vargas never gave up on herself and continued to throw as many punches as she could despite the awful connect rate, but it was a losing effort in the end. Official scores for Nicolson were 100-90 on all three scorecards.

• Khalil Coe TKO-2 vs Kwame Ritter

Khalil Coe (9-0, 7 KOs) made swift work of his opponent Kwame Ritter (11-2, 9 KOs) in the DAZN opener, landing a heavy shot that badly shook up and eventually dropped Ritter in the second round. Ritter would make it to his feet but several more big shots from Coe would have Ritter stumbling around the ring until the referee had seen enough and called off the fight at the 1:59 minute mark.
