Aberdeen fans chant ‘if you see Connor Barron break his legs’ as they call out former star after Rangers move
A GROUP of Aberdeen fans have been spotted aiming a sick chant at former player Connor Barron.
The young midfielder moved from Aberdeen to Rangers last month and the transfer has been greeted with anger from the Dons support.
Barron, 21, came through the youth system at Pittodrie and as it stands, they and the Ibrox club have yet to agree on a suitable fee for the player.
It could mean both clubs heading to a tribunal to determine the final value of the transfer.
As Aberdeen faced off against Queen of the South in the Premier Sports Cup today, the former player became the target of a nasty chant.
Aberdeen would run out 3-0 winners but before the game kicked off, a group of Dons supporters were heard calling for the current players to break Barron’s legs they next time they saw him.
A fierce rivalry exists between the two clubs that stems back to the late eighties and early nineties, when Aberdeen were a growing force in Scottish football.
A match match between the two teams saw Gers ace Ian Durrant injured by a tackle from Neil Simpson and the tension has remained high ever eince.
Before proceedings got underway at Palmerston Park, a small minority of Dons fans sang: “If you see Connor Barron, break his legs.
“If you see Connor Barron, break his legs.
“If you see Connor Barron, see Connor Barron, see Connor Barron, break his legs.”
Rangers themselves lost 2-1 to Ajax in their second pre-season friendly.
Philippe Clement‘s men were masters of their own downfall however, as two defensive errors cost them on the day.
But perhaps an even bigger worry was the fact midfielder Nico Raskin was forced to leave the stadium in crutches after picking up an injury.
