Botafogo extend lead in Brazil's Serie A

RIO DE JANEIRO, July 17 (Xinhua) -- Tiquinho Soares scored a second-half winner as Botafogo moved three points clear at the top of Brazil's Serie A standings on Wednesday with a 1-0 home victory over reigning champions Palmeiras.

Soares sent a first-time effort into the bottom-left corner after Luiz Henrique's cross from the right side of the penalty box.
