Betfair punter’s ‘outrageous bet of a lifetime’ turns £1 into obscene amount

A BETFAIR punter turned £1 into a life-changing win after landing an ‘outrageous bet of a lifetime’.

Traders were left reeling when, somehow, the final leg of the monstrous eight-fold came in at odds of 18-1.

There are certainly easier tracks to find winners at than Catterick and Wexford.

But amazingly this punter’s 50p each-way poke found eight in a row including a 20-1 chance.

All in all the colossal bet paid £103,611 and took three hours to come in – netting the punter the equivalent of £34,537 per hour.

Broomfield Bijou got the bet off and rolling when claiming a beginners chase at Wexford by an easy six lengths.

It was over to Catterick then for the first of six straight winners.

Easy Peeler (5-6), Chuti Manika (11-8) and Harmonia (2-1) all obliged before the bet really kicked into gear with the success of Swinging Eddie.

Backed at 20-1, the eight-year-old gelding was back down a pound below his last winning mark and kept on well in the closing stages of the 7f contest under jockey Sam James.

Furzig won the next by just a nose at 11-4 before 9-2 One Of Our Own completed the cracking Catterick clean sweep.

With liabilities through the roof, the whole jackpot rested on Three By Two back over at Irish track Wexford.

Sent off 9-1 having been backed at 18s, Richard Deegan timed his ride to perfection to deliver Three By Two before two out.

He ran on well approaching the last and hung on by just over a length to seal the most improbable of gambles.

Betfair spokesman Barry Orr said: “What a memorising three-hour spell for the small stake big winning customer!

“I imagine they were watching the last leg from behind the sofa.

“It’s a fantastic achievement and we wish them the very best of luck.”
