We live in a great era for British heavyweight boxing. Flashy, flamboyant, funny and feisty, for the most part. They are a promoter’s dream, and they never fail to produce entertaining pre-fight build-ups followed by terrific clashes most of the time. This one should continue that same tradition. It’s always great for boxing when the big guys are out there getting some attention from casual and hardcore fans alike. Should be a fun affair to watch.

Yes, we’ve seen this before. The Sugar Ray Leonard vs. Donny Lalonde fiasco had all the same ingredients: a fighter with an oversized ego trying to add two lines to his resume in one single fight, scoring two titles in a single day’s work. This will be no different, since they will be fighting for Lepage-Joanisse’s WBC women’s heavyweight and the vacant WBO light heavyweight title at the same time. Truly, Shields’ commitment to become the GWOAT didn’t need this cheap ploy. But her ambition and the greed of the two sanctioning bodies in question, for whom no sanctioning fee is too small, have allowed this to happen. Should be a good fight, though.
