After the success of the late Alexis Arguello and Roman ‘Chocolatito’ Gonzalez, Harvin Aguirre hopes to add his name to the list of all-time great fighters from Nicaragua.

Aguirre will face Alfredo Mosquera on August 16, Tuto Zabala, Jr. confirmed to The Ring on Tuesday morning. The 10-round bout will take place at the Coliseo de Combates in Panama City, Panama and will stream live on ESPN Knockout (9 p.m. ET/ 6 p.m. PT).

The 24-year-old Aguirre (12-0, 9 knockouts) is originally from Managua, Nicaragua and now lives and trains in Panama City.

“Harvin is a tremendous prospect, who has fought on ESPN Knockout (streams) on two occasions, once in Panama and once in Nicaragua,” Zabala told The Ring. “He is a great prospect. We are working in conjunction with (manager) Raul Cortizo Cohen and (promoter) Sergio Gonzalez.

“He has a hard test against the southpaw and experienced ‘Metralleta’ Mosquera, but it is a great battle between youth and experience. We expect a great fight and another great show.”

Aguirre (12-0, 9 knockouts) last fought on Saturday, knocking out Brian Pava at 36 seconds of the opening round in a clash of unbeaten prospects. In his previous fight on April 6, Aguirre stopped once-beaten Angel Rosa Martinez in the seventh round.

In recent fights, Aguirre has displayed more power and aggression, having stopped six of his last seven opponents.

August 16 will mark Aguirre’s fourth fight of this year. Aguirre fought six times in 2023.

Mosquera (28-6-2, 16 KOs), who also resides in Panama City, has not fought since August 4 of last year, when he lost by knockout to Derrieck Cuevas. The fight was stopped in round 4 after Cuevas allegedly suffered an injury that prompted the stoppage.

The 37-year-old has notched victories over Erick Bone in October 2013 and once-beaten Abel Mina in October 2021. Mosquera has lost to Sammy Vasquez and Rashidi Ellis.
