Who is Georgia-Mae Fenton? Meet the English gymnast looking to take gold for Team GB at Olympics 2024

TEAM GB has welcomed many athletes onto their elite squad, and that includes rising star Georgia-Mae Fenton.

The talented gymnast is now hoping for Olympic glory at Paris 2024.

Who is Georgia-Mae Fenton?

Born on November 2, 2000, Georgia-Mae Fenton is an Olympic gymnast who hails from Gravesend.

She is a member of both the British national gymnastics team and the England Commonwealth Games gymnastics squad.

In July 2024, Fenton made her Olympic debut at Paris 2024 for Team GB.

On becoming an Olympian, she told Kent Online: “I’d waited a long time to be able to have that title, but when I was out there, I didn’t actually feel nervous.

“Just to be at this point, all the hard work is done and whatever happens, happens – I’ve achieved my dream, no matter what.

“I would have liked to have done a better bar routine for myself and the team so I’d like to sort that out for the team final now we’ve qualified.

“It was, however, a pretty clean competition with just a few bits here and there to sort out.”

The star has also designed her own range of sportswear, especially for gymnasts.

What sport does Georgia-Mae Fenton compete in?

Fenton competes for Team GB in artistic gymnastics.

Speaking about being selected for Team GB she told her fans: “Seven-year-old me would be so proud,.

“I watched the Olympics for the first time in 2008 and was truly inspired and in awe of the athleticism of all the gymnasts.

“This event sparked my dream to be a gymnast myself and also hoped to compete in the Olympics games.

“I never truly thought I would be able to achieve this dream!

My love for gymnastics, my perseverance and determination have never disappeared and this just shows that you should never give up on your dreams.

What is Georgia-Mae Fenton’s Olympics record?

Fenton made her Olympic debut on July 30, 2024, and was the team’s highest scorer in a Team GB tally of 41.966.

She will compete again on August 1, 2024 in the women’s all-around final after qualifying in 20th thanks to a score of 52.632.

Away from the Olympics and Fenton is the 2018 and 2022 Commonwealth champion on uneven bars, and a member of the gold medal-winning England team.

With Great Britain, she was part of the team that won silver at both the 2022 European Women’s Artistic Gymnastics Championships and 2022 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships.

After this she won a gold medal at the 2023 European Artistic Gymnastics Championships.

Andy Murray’s swansong with Dan Evans continues – they face Americans Taylor Fritz and Tommy Paul in the quarter-finals (3.30pm). 

And the golf starts today, meaning Tommy Fleetwood and Matt Fitzpatrick will tee off for GB, with Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry flying the flag for Ireland (from 8am).

World No1 Scottie Scheffler leads an all-star USA golf team, though, alongside Open champ Xander Schauffele, Collin Morikawa and Wyndham Clark

French Open champ Iga Swiatek is the heavy favourite for the women’s tennis singles gold ahead of her semi-final before Carlos Alcaraz then Novak Djokovic go in the men’s quarters (from 11am). 

FANCY SOMETHING DIFFERENT? 

Volleyball is an ever-present throughout the Olympics, running from Day 1 all the way to Day 16, all of it in the catchy-named South Paris Arena 1.

Tokyo runners-up Brazil face Japan (12pm) and hosts France vs China (8pm) in the pick of the clashes.

The athletics officially begins with the men’s and women’s 20km race walks today (6.30am and 8.20am).
