ALICIA SCHMIDT, dubbed the ‘world’s sexiest athlete’, was left stunned as she saw the Paris Olympics track for the first time.

In a video shared on her Instagram, the German athlete was shocked when she saw the new look Stade de France.

She captioned the video with: “Wow! ”

It comes after the track underwent a major change from the last Olympics, held in Tokyo.

For the centenary of Paris last hosting the games, the colour of the running track has been changed to celebrate the host country.

While tracks are usually a shade of blue or orange, this one comes in a shade of purple.

Explaining the decision to switch the colour to purple, manufacturers Mondo said: “This will allow the images of the Paris 2024 Games to be engraved in the memories of spectators, television viewers and athletes alike.”

Schmidt is a sprinter that competes over a range of distances.

Her speciality though, is the 400 metres.

She will be representing Germany at this Olympics as part of the 4x400m mixed relay.

She is due to compete on Saturday in the event.

Away from the track, Schmidt has previously modelled for Hugo Boss.

Why is the Olympic track purple?

Athletics icon Carl Lewis unveiled the new look purple track, which was designed by Italian company Mondo.

It is made of rubber, covers an area of around 17,000 square metres and has been extended from eight to nine lanes.

President of the Paris 2024 Organising Committee Tony Estanguet revealed that the idea was to create a more “joyful and festive” tone to the track.

It will feature three colours, two shades of purple (one lighter, closer to lavender and the other darker) and grey on the outside of the track.

Mondo have seen three hundred world records broken since the Italian company produced the tracks since 1972.

And it is hoped that many more will be broken at the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

And earlier this month Schmidt, who has five million Instagram followers, revealed that she turned down a huge sponsorship deal worth six figures despite making only £611 a month as a professional athlete.

She said: “Two months ago I received an offer from a well-known brand. But I wasn’t 100 per cent behind it.

“I didn’t feel comfortable with that. That would have been in the mid-to-high six figures for a campaign.

“In principle, I have to say that it is not easy for most German track and field athletes to make a living from sport.

“Of course there is money to be made from competitions. In most competitions you don’t make any money.

“Personally, I couldn’t live on these amounts alone, because for many competitions you still have travel and hotel costs, which aren’t always covered.

“Most of us study part-time in order to build up a second source of income, or even have mini jobs that we do on the side.”
