Spinning Back Clique LIVE: UFC Abu Dhabi recap, Topuria vs. Holloway, UFC lawsuit settlement denied, more
Check out this week’s “Spinning Back Clique,” MMA Junkie’s weekly live show that takes a spin through the biggest topics in mixed martial arts.
This week’s panel of Brian “Goze” Garcia, Mike Bohn and Danny Segura will join host “Gorgeous” George Garcia live at noon ET (9 a.m. PT) to discuss and debate the following topics:
- UFC on ABC 7 in Abu Dhabi went down Saturday and left plenty to talk about. Top bantamweight contenders Umar Nurmagomedov and Deiveson Figueiredo picked up big wins, with Nurmagomeov (18-0 MMA, 6-0 UFC) defeating Cory Sandhagen and Figueiredo (24-3-1 MMA, 13-3-1 UFC) outpointing Marlon Vera. We also saw Tony Ferguson lose yet again, this time getting quickly submitted by Michael Chiesa. We discuss and break down the key results from the card.
- 2024 PFL Playoffs 1 went down this past Friday and left us with the first set of final matchups: Dakota Ditcheva vs. Taila Santos at women’s flyweight and Denis Goltsov vs. Oleg Popov at heavyweight. We review the winners’ performances and make our picks for the 2024 PFL finals.
- There was big news on the business side of things in the sport. Judge Richard Boulware of the U.S. District Court of Nevada rejected a $355 million settlement proposal for the pair of UFC antitrust lawsuits. How surprising is this news? Will the UFC and the plaintiffs reach a new settlement or go to trial? We discuss.
- Tons of matchups were announced for several UFC cards, including two UFC pay-per-views. These bookings included a UFC featherweight title fight between Ilia Topuria and Max Holloway, Robert Whittaker vs. Khamzat Chimaev, the return of Jose Aldo against Mario Bautista, Kayla Harrison vs. Ketlen Viera, and much more. The panel breaks down the fights and make their early picks.
