Andre Onana warns Man Utd fans he will take ‘risks’ this season and says ‘be prepared’
ANDRE ONANA has warned Manchester United fans he will be taking ‘risks’ this season.
Manager Erik ten Hag wants the team to play out from the back more than in the last two campaigns.
New goalkeeping coach Jelle ten Rouwelaar has been working on that with Cameroon international Onana during their pre-season tour of the US.
And goalkeeper Onana can’t wait to show his skills with his feet even if it might be a bit hair raising for the fans.
A jovial Onana said: “I think it’s what you’re gonna see this season because I will take a lot of risks. I can tell you in advance already!
“Be prepared because it’s gonna be this season, trust me! I will enjoy it even more when this season starts.”
Is it really a good idea to be taking risks after a season when United might have won the FA Cup but finished an all-time low of eighth in the Premier League?
Onana said: “Of course, because the best team in the world takes risks. Building from the back, recognise things, situations, when the opponent jumps one against one, or when they press with three or with four.
“So for me it’s important to recognise those kind of things and make the best decision for the team.
“I will take a lot of responsibility and I think my back is huge to carry it all. I think it’s gonna be nice this season.”

Onana is quickly becoming a fan’s favourite after a difficult start to his United career.
He moved for £47.2million from Inter Milan with whom he had just contested the Champions League final which Manchester City won 1-0.
His switch to United saw him link up again with his former Ajax coach Ten Hag.
But it was not all plain sailing as a number of high profile blunders left United fans wondering why David De Gea had been ditched in favour of him
Onana admitted: “It’s not always easy to settle in a new country, a new league and new people around but my teammates helped me a lot.
“Being a player for Manchester United, when you don’t win, it’s fair to receive criticism because at the end of the day, it’s part of the job.
“We are here for it and me coming here as the best goalkeeper in the world, it’s normal they were tough on me because they expect a lot from me but at the same time they also give me a lot of love.
“You just have to balance that and criticism sometimes is good because you have to look back at what you did that was not good, so for me I take it positively.”
United’s new season starts off with a rematch against Manchester City from the FA Cup Final, in this Saturday’s Community Shield.
Another piece of silverware after that and the League Cup two seasons ago is going to be a boost.
But Onana says they have to be aiming for bigger prizes.
He said: “I don’t think it was good enough last season because I came from playing a Champions League final and the FA Cup is important but not enough for Manchester United.
“The targets have to be really high and we will go for it this season.
“We are working very hard, really positive.
“I’m really excited about the new signings, I think the way my teammates are working hard every day, I’m feeling very positive.”
