Can athletes stay in the Paris Olympic Village after competing? Here's the answer thanks to an informative TikTok.

Here's what happens after athletes compete in the 2024 Paris Olympics.

After athletes compete in the 2024 Paris Olympics, you may wonder if they get to stay in the Olympic Village and if they are allowed to stay for the closing ceremony on August 11.

The answer is complicated. But here’s what an Olympian had to say about it.

According to Dutch skateboarder Keet Oldenbeuving, athletes must leave the Olympic Village two days after competing. (They get those extra days to account for weather delays or other hiccups. After that, they need to vacate the premises.) Here’s Keet’s explanation of why:

“We leave because they don’t want any athletes that are already done — just so the ones that are actually still in competitions…can stay in the zone and not have any distractions.”

That’s a very respectable reason to tell people they have to go. Of course, if athletes leave, they could miss out on closing ceremonies. However, per Keet, there is a way they can view them if they coordinate that with the Olympic Federation:

“We can come back for the closing ceremony. They have a bus arranged, and you can go on that bus the day of the closing ceremonies… So, you can go back there, go to the village…you change, get ready for the closing, and you can come back — sleep — and they have a train out the day after to go back home.”
