Imagine if a spider monkey was in a rock climbing competition. THAT’S SPORT CLIMBING. OK, fine. That’s not the actual definition, but you see the vision. Sport Climbing made its debut at the Tokyo Games and technically involves three styles: bouldering, speed and lead.
For bouldering, athletes climb 4.5-meter high walls WITHOUT ROPES in a short amount of time and with minimal tries. Speed climbing is a timed one-on-one race with elimination rounds in which athletes scale a 15-meter inclined wall lightning quick. In lead events, athletes climb up as high as they can on a wall that is typically over 15 meters high without seeing the course ahead of time.
All of that sounds sick, right? Well, the photos of sport climbing are even better.
