Upon joining the Steelers, Fields was immediately listed as the backup to Russell Wilson. However, with Wilson sidelined due to a calf injury during training camp, Fields has excelled in practice. Steelers Head Coach Mike Tomlin had not officially acknowledged a competition for the quarterback position until early Wednesday morning during his press conference, where he effectively confirmed that it is indeed a real competition between Fields and Wilson.
