Urijah Faber likes Henry Cejudo, but thinks Song Yadong 'would whoop him'
ABU DHABI – Urijah Faber thinks Song Yadong would be a bad matchup for Henry Cejudo.
Yadong (21-8-1 MMA, 10-3-1 UFC) and Cejudo (16-4 MMA, 10-4 UFC) went back-and-forth on social media, but a fight never materialized. Yadong’s coach Faber revealed that the pair were linked for a matchup Sept. 14 at UFC 306, but Cejudo wasn’t healthy to compete.
“I like Cejudo, too, so I wouldn’t like to see that for Cejudo because I think Song would whoop him,” Faber told MMA Junkie. “And I think maybe Cejudo knows that. So I don’t know if that fight is going to happen.
“You have to have two people sign the dotted line. It was thrown on the table for the Sphere. I think Cejudo maybe was injured, and so we’re waiting on what’s next for Song. Any of these guys.”
Yadong has won five of his past seven, but is coming off a unanimous decision loss to former champion Petr Yan at UFC 299. Faber is confident that Yadong will produce another UFC title for Team Alpha Male after T.J. Dillashaw and Cody Garbrandt both realized gold training out of his gym.
“Nobody wants to fight Song,” Faber said. “It’s like the whisper campaign to stay away from Song Yadong, and there’s a good reason for that. That belt will be back in the gym, hoisted high in China and California, so whoever is next, let’s do it.”
