World’s sexiest athlete’ Alica Schmidt gives blunt answer after she is asked about Olympics 2024 row within relay team
ALICA SCHMIDT gave a blunt response when quizzed on the row over Germany’s Olympic relay team.
After competing in the 4×400 metre mixed relay at the Paris Games, German athlete Jean Paul Bredau criticised the decision to select Schmidt, 25, ahead of his girlfriend, Luna Bulmahn.
Bredau later apologised for his comments, but Bulmahn voiced her anger on social media and was removed from the team ahead of the women’s relay.
When asked about Bulmahn’s exit, Schmidt said: “The decision was not made by us, but by the board and the coaches. That was probably the best decision for the team. We trust the coaches.”
Schmidt, dubbed the “world’s sexiest athlete”, was then pressed on whether she has spoken to Bulmahn since the furore.
To which she replied: “I don’t want to say anything more about the topic now. It’s about the sporting performance.”

It remains to be seen whether that will continue after the Olympics, with Schmidt insisting she is yet to consider her future.
She added: “I haven’t thought about that yet [her training set-up in Berlin]. That’s also something my trainer will decide.”
Bredau was also questioned about the training group, to which he replied: “I can’t say anything about that at the moment. We’ll see if we continue to train in Berlin.”

Schmidt will compete in the women’s 4x100m final on Friday evening.
The German men’s team, which included Bredau, failed to make the final.
Bredau and Schmidt also could not help their country through to the final of the 4x400m mixed relay.
