LAS VEGAS – Charles Conwell has been looking forward to this type of moment.

The unbeaten junior middleweight, rated No. 9 by The Ring, will face Khiary Gray Saturday night at the Michelob Ultra Arena inside the Mandalay Bay. The 10-round bout will precede the main event bout between junior middleweight contenders Serhii Bohachuk and Vergil Ortiz, Jr.

Both fights will stream live on DAZN (8 p.m. ET/ 5 p.m. PT).

At Friday’s weigh-in, Conwell weighed in at 153.8 pounds. Gray came in at 154 pounds.

Conwell made his debut under the Golden Boy Promotions banner in his last fight on April 20, stopping former contender Nathaniel Gallimore in the sixth round. The win over Gallimore was his first since November 2022, when he defeated Juan Carlos Abreu by majority decision.

The 26-year-old, who resides in Cleveland, Ohio, is grateful for the opportunity to fight on a huge card.

“It’s a great platform and I’m excited about it,” Conwell stated in an interview during Friday’s weigh-in. “I just see a guy (Gray) who’s target practice. I don’t plan on this fight going long. I’m going to do what I do best. I’m going to win and dominate in amazing fashion.”

Ironically, Bohachuk and Ortiz also weighed in at 153.8 pounds. Should he come out victorious after the fight against Gray, Conwell will have an interest in watching the main event fight between Bohachuk and Ortiz.

“That’s my future opponent,” Conwell said. “I’m definitely looking forward to seeing what happens. It’s going to be a really good fight. I’m excited for it. I don’t know. It’s going to be a close fight. I want the biggest and baddest. Let’s get it.”

Gray (18-6, 13 KOs), who resides in Worcester, Massachusetts, defeated Jimmie Williams by unanimous decision in his last bout on December 9. The 31-year-old has won his last two fights after back-to-back losses against Bakhram Murtazaliev, the current IBF junior middleweight titleholder, in 2021 and Gary O’Sullivan in 2019.

Also on the Golden Boy Promotions card, junior welterweight standout Kenneth Sims, Jr. (20-2-1, 7 KOs) will square off against late-sub Jonathan Romero (35-4, 19 KOs) of Colombia in a 10-round bout.

As of the publication of this article, Romero was on his way to Las Vegas to weigh in. Sims has yet to weigh in.

Sims, who resides in Chicago, will be making his debut under the Golden Boy Promotions banner. After having not fought since a majority decision victory over Botirazhon Akhmedov on May 13 of last year, Sims hopes to build momentum and face the upper echelon of the 140-pound division.

“I’m excited to be making my Golden Boy debut on a big card,” said Sims. “I plan on making a statement with my performance. It’s been over a year since I last fought so I want to remind the world that I’m a real player in the 140-pound division and I have the ability to beat anyone.”

Gabriela Fundora (13-0, 6 KOs) of Coachella, California will defend her IBF Female world flyweight title against Chile’s Daniela Asenjo (16-3-3, 2 KOs) in a 10-round bout.

Fundora, who is the younger sister of unified WBC/ WBO world junior middleweight titleholder Sebastian Fundora, weighed in at 109.8 pounds. Asenjo came in at 111.2 pounds.

In the opening bout of the DAZN stream, Joel Iriarte (3-0, 3 KOs) of Bakersfield, California will square off against Miguel Ortiz of Springfield, Massachusetts in a six-round bout. Iriarte weighed in at 146.4 pounds. Ortiz (3-1, 1 KO) came in at 143.6 pounds.

Cecilia Braekhus will face late-sub Maricela Cornejo in a fight that will stream live on the Golden Boy Fight Night YouTube page (5 p.m. ET/ 2 p.m. PT). Braekhus weighed in at 154.6 pounds. Cornejo came in at 153 pounds.

Braekhus (37-2-1, 9 KOs), the former undisputed welterweight champion, will face Cornejo (19-6, 7 KOs) in a 10-round bout. The Braekhus-Cornejo fight will headline the preliminary portion of the Golden Boy card, which will stream live on the Golden Boy YouTube channel.
