Commentator curse hits rider who flies off front of horse seconds after being hailed on BBC for ‘really good ride here’
OLYMPIAN Salma Abdelmaksoud was hit with a case of commentators curse when she flew off her horse – seconds after being praised on air.
The Egyptian is in the women’s pentathlon – an event made up of fencing, swimming, equestrian show jumping, laser pistol shooting, and cross country running.
Abdelmaksoud was competing in the show jumping and was on the way to a stellar ride – until it all went wrong.
Leaping through the hurdles, BBC’s commentator said: “Lovely, lovely, really good ride here.”
But just seconds later, Abdelmaksoud took a fall and tumbled off her horse and thus was eliminated.
The commentator added: “What a shame from Abdelmaksoud. The horse was leaping over those first rails.
“And that’s really unfortunate for the Egyptian. Thankfully, she’s OK.”
Abdelmaksoud, a youth Olympic gold medallist in 2018, had to dust herself off for the fencing and laser run rounds.
The Paris Games actually marks the final time horse riding will be featured in the Olympic modern pentathlon.
In Los Angeles in 2028, it will instead be replaced with a 100-metre obstacle course that resembles a Ninja Warrior.

This is not the first time modern pentathlon has been reformed.
The sport was once contested across several days but by 1996, all disciplines took place within one.
It was again shortened further in 2012 when running and shooting were combined into a single laser run discipline.
