Fighters make weight for title double header at Korakuen Hall

Tomorrow at Korakuen Hall we get a title double header with a Japanese and OPBF title fight on the card. Today, ahead of tomorrow’s show, we saw the fighters involved take part in their weigh in.

The domestic title fight will see Japanese 140lb champion Kuntae Lee (7-0-2, 1) [李健太], make his first defense, as he faces Ryan Joshua Yamamoto (7-6, 1) [山本ライアン ジュシュア]. On the scales the unbeaten champion was bang on the 140lb limit and looked in great shape for his first defense, as he looks to build on his excellent title win against Homura Fujita (12-2, 10) [藤田裕崇] back in April. As for Yamamoto, who’s having the biggest fight of his career, he was 139.1lbs easily under the limit.

The other title bout on this show will see the unbeaten Mikito Nakano (10-0, 9) [中野幹士] face once beaten Filipino Bryx Piala (9-1, 3) in a bout for the vacant OPBF Super Featherweight title. Nakano, the #1 ranked contender for the title, was 125.9lbs, easily under the 126lb Featherweight limit. He looked in great shape, but will know this is a major step up for his career, given it’s his first title bout. Piala, ranked #14 by the OPBF, was well under the limit at 124.8lbs, more than a full 1lb under the divisional limit.

Both Nakano and Lee are Teiken fighters, who have long been tipped for success. Wins are expected for both here, with bigger and better things expected for them down the line. Saying that both challengers will be hungry to rip up the script and make the most of the biggest opportunities of their careers.

The bouts will be the main 2 bouts on streaming service U-Next as they broadcast the 22nd WHO'S NEXT DYNAMIC GLOVE on U-NEXT
