Shots of San Francisco and even San Jose trump Santa Clara in 49ers Monday Night Football broadcast
By now San Francisco 49ers fans are probably used to major TV broadcasts showing scenes of San Francisco over Santa Clara, home of the 49ers. But that does mean some fans are happy about it.
In the Niners’ home opener against the New York Jets, fans took to social media to complain about the mistaken identity. In one shot, announcer Joe Buck called a scene of the San Jose hills “picturesque” Santa Clara. Fans called it out on social media:
“lol, the view of Santa Clara”
“They play in Santa Clara, not SJ”
“for real though nobody wants to see footage of Santa Clara lol”
“joe buck gassing up “beautiful santa clara just south of san francisco” as if it’s not the most boring city in the south bay enough!”
Earlier, the broadcast began with scenes of the Golden Gate Bridge, the Marina and the Bay Bridge.
“Yes. What is too funny is MNF tv shots are of the Golden Gate Bridge and the Marina. Levi Stadium for the Niners is in Santa Clara, 45 miles south of there.”
“Always forget the Bay Bridge view from Santa Clara.”
“Santa Clara has a marina now? And, no, Alviso doesn’t count.”
“The shots of San Francisco much better than the overhead of Santa Clara.”
While it may fall on deaf ears, some fans hope the next broadcast will actually show the city of Santa Clara:
“They should show Santa Clara imo it’s a very nice place.”
